Thursday 24th March marked a huge milestone for Angloco: the last vehicle being delivered as part of the Defence Fire and Rescue Project (DFRP).

Put simply, this occasion signified the biggest fire appliance manufacturing contract ever awarded to Angloco (83 fire appliances) alongside being the largest through-life vehicle and equipment maintenance contract (a 12-year contract) ever awarded to the company.

Many renowned figures attended this event, including the local MP for Batley and Spen – Kim Leadbeater – who was even taken up in an Angloco 45m Bronto Skylift hi-rise Platform to view her constituency from the sky! Other notable attendees included:

  • Senior members from the Defence Fire & Rescue, including Assistant Chief Fire Officer Paul Slack representing the Chief Fire Officer (Sim Nex).
  • Senior members from Capita and Capita FRS – Jon Hickey and Martin Trafford
  • Senior Civil Servants involved in the Project – Vince Bradbury and Peter Brayford

This event was the culmination of some 6 years of engagement, beginning with 5 separate companies bidding for the Defence Fire and Rescue Project (DFRP), which was finally awarded to Capita.

For West Yorkshire based manufacturer Angloco, this event marked the completion of the last of 83 Type 2 Multi-purpose Response Vehicles rolling off the production line!. This being a Government Owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) initiative with Capita Fire & Rescue being the Service Provider.

Angloco are proud of the fact that the result of their delivery and operations were ultimately not affected despite the many challenges throughout the pandemic and the resultant shutdowns by many of the company’s key suppliers.

Alistair Brown, Managing Director at Angloco, had the following to say about this:

“Of course, we never doubted it for a minute, that we could deliver our biggest ever contract for Angloco, through a pandemic!”

Paul Slack, Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Defence Fire & Rescue said the following:

“The changes that we have asked Angloco to make throughout this process have been difficult for everyone, but Angloco have risen to the occasion every time. These vehicles will ensure that our Defence Fire Fighters are safer now.”
